Sermon Excerpts from Rev. Sam Adeyemi
Matthew 6:7
And when you pray, do not use vain repetitions as the heathen do. For they think that they will be heard for their many words.
You cannot function to full capacity until you are inspired by God. When we are inspired by God, we pray!
Man was designed to be inspired by God. (2 Timothy 3:16)
All scriptures are inspired by God.
Someone once said, “If you are not inspired, you will expire.”
Prayer is intimate communication with God. And the foundation of that communication is relationship.
What is your definition of prayer?
Prayer is not an opportunity to send God on errands. Prayer is communication with your Dad – God.
Prayer is communication between two people that are in a relationship, in this case, you and God!
2 Corinthians 5:18-19
Reconciliation between God and man is the whole essence of the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
Now that the reconciliation exists, we can have intimate relationship with God in the place of prayer.
When we get prayer from the perspective of religion, then we think that the older the version of communication we use in prayer, the more effective our prayers becomes. This is not true!
What is this relationship about? What is God eager to hear from us? What does HE hear?
1 Thessalonians 5:17 – Pray without ceasing.
Of course we are meant to pray without ceasing yet not in repetition or in vain words.
Again, we need to pray, but not with vain repetition, but with grateful heart, and intent of love for God the father.
When we have relationship with God, we will always be eager to be in His presence.
Mark 1:35 ~ Jesus was always eager to be in the presence of God.
Psalm 42:1-2 ~ Prayer is for God-lovers, not for selfish people looking for God to meet their vain needs.
When someone is in love, they miss the presence of the person they love. They can’t have too much of the presence of the person they love.
Matthew 14:23-25
When you’ve been hanging out with God, you will come out seeing things differently, because you are seeing life from the perspective of God.
In the place of prayer, God speaks. Prayer is a two way communication between man and God.
The basis of prayer is relationship.
Prayer is not a monologue, it is a dialogue.
Getting into prayer, doing all the talking and running away, does not cut it.
Leverage whatever your situation and circumstances is to deepen your relationship with God.
This season, you will deepen your relationship with God, through intimate communication with Him. And God will meet all your needs!
